Three villages, three Sicilies. Cefalù lying beneath its Rock, Erice suspended among the clouds above Trapani, Castelmola gazing at Etna from a balcony of stone. This is not a tour: it's a story whose scent changes at every bend in the road.
There is a Sicily you see and a Sicily you listen to. In Erice, when the mist — here they call it "u purteddu", the little door of Venus — rises from the sea and wraps the spiralling alleys, our tour leads stop you in front of an ordinary wall and tell you of the temple of Venus Ericina, where sacred doves were once released towards Africa, their return the only proof that spring had come. You walk on the same stone and understand why sailors searched for this peak across decades at sea.
In Cefalù history wears the stern, golden face of Christ Pantocrator. Legend says that Roger II, caught in a storm, vowed to build a cathedral wherever he set foot: he touched land at Cefalù, and one of the most beautiful Arab-Norman cathedrals in the world was born. We show it to you at dawn, when the light enters at a slant and the gold of the mosaics catches fire before the tourists arrive.
Castelmola is the secret above the secret: higher than Taormina, a handful of houses where a historic café has poured almond wine for generations. From up here Etna smokes softly on the horizon, and you understand that in Sicily even silence has a flavour.

01 Cefalù — Il voto di Ruggero II
La leggenda racconta che il re normanno Ruggero II, sorpreso da una furiosa tempesta in mare, fece voto di innalzare una cattedrale là dove fosse approdato sano e salvo. Le onde lo spinsero a Cefalù, ai piedi della Rocca: nel 1131 nacque così uno dei duomi arabo-normanni più belli del mondo.
Dentro, il Cristo Pantocratore in mosaico d'oro guarda chiunque entri da quasi nove secoli. Il tuo tour lead ti porta qui all'alba, quando la luce radente accende l'oro prima che arrivino i visitatori: è il momento in cui la leggenda smette di essere racconto e diventa sguardo.
02 Erice — Le colombe di Venere
Sulla vetta avvolta dalle nuvole sorgeva il santuario di Venere Ericina, venerato da Elimi, Fenici, Greci e Romani. Da qui, racconta la tradizione, ogni anno si liberavano colombe sacre che volavano verso l'Africa: quando tornavano, guidate da una colomba dorata, si sapeva che la primavera era cominciata.
Oggi al loro posto c'è il Castello di Venere, e la nebbia che sale dal mare — gli ericini la chiamano "u purteddu", la porticina della dea. Camminare nei vicoli a chiocciola mentre la bruma avvolge ogni cosa è entrare, letteralmente, dentro un mito.
03 Castelmola — Il balcone sopra il teatro
Più in alto di Taormina, dove un tempo vegliava una rocca saracena, Castelmola è il segreto sopra il segreto. Da quassù lo sguardo abbraccia l'antico Teatro Greco e, all'orizzonte, l'Etna che fuma piano.
È un borgo di pochi vicoli e di un rito dolce: il vino alla mandorla, servito da generazioni in un caffè storico affacciato sul vuoto. Il tour lead te lo fa assaggiare al tramonto, quando il vulcano si tinge di rosa: è il brindisi con cui la Sicilia ti saluta.
Tremila anni in tre borghi
Greci, Romani, Arabi e Normanni hanno lasciato in questi tre borghi una stratificazione rara: si cammina letteralmente sopra i secoli. Ecco le tappe che il tuo tour lead ti farà toccare con mano.

Greci e il monte di Venere
Cefalù nasce come Kephaloidion; sulla vetta di Erice sorge il santuario di Venere Ericina, meta di naviganti di tutto il Mediterraneo.

Ruggero II e il Duomo
Il re normanno fonda la cattedrale di Cefalù: i suoi mosaici bizantini sono oggi Patrimonio UNESCO (itinerario arabo-normanno, 2015).
- XII–XIV sec.
Il Castello di Venere
Sulle rovine del tempio i Normanni erigono il castello di Erice; il borgo diventa un dedalo medievale di chiese e cortili in pietra.

Dolci e tradizioni
A Erice fiorisce l'arte della frutta martorana; Castelmola, sopra Taormina, custodisce il rito del vino alla mandorla.

Spring (April–June) and early autumn (September–October): a mild climate, magnificent light and villages that are alive but not crowded.
